Oily Skin? Makeup that will change your face

As a teenager, I always struggled with my skin. Prone to acne and extremely oily it was challenging to find makeup that wouldn’t make me break out and also wouldn’t slide around my face during the day. Throughout the years, I have searched for makeup that would mesh with my skin and I think I have finally figured it out! Here are some products that I have found to work well with acne prone and oily skin.

Recently NARS discontinued my favourite foundation (RIP NARS sheer matte foundation) and I was forced to go on the hunt for something new. I love tarte as a brand because they’re good quality, cruelty free, and the packaging is very cute. I decided to try out their Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation. I wouldn’t say this foundation is full coverage per se but it is buildable so you could build up to full coverage with multiple layers. I typically use a light layer to even out my skin tone. I love this foundation. It is a mineral foundation making it light weight on the skin never making me feel oily and helps absorb while mattifying throughout the day!

Because I am prone to blemishes I have searched and searched for a full coverage concealer. The one I use now is one you will have heard about if you follow any makeup bloggers. It is the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer. On top of being a concealer it is also supposed to be a dark spot eraser and if you’re blemish prone you may have some dark spots/acne scarring you want to get rid of as well.

When I first started wearing makeup I used exclusively Cover Girl products. Since then I have branched out, but I am still faithful to the first powder I ever used. Cover Girl is a kind genius and decided to make powders and foundations to target different types of skin. So, I use the Cover Girl Clean Pressed Powder for Oil Control. It sets my concealer and absorbs excess oil, which is A+.

At 18, I really, really wanted to start using highlighter. Highlighters are beautiful and shimmery and make you feel like the 100 emoji. In my search for a highlighter I stumbled upon Urban Decay’s Naked Flushed palette, which has a beautiful highlighter, but also a bronzer and a blush. I finished the highlighter in the palette but since then I’ve always used the blush. It’s a beautiful light pink shade and it never feels uncomfortable on my skin, which tends to happen with powder and cream blushes.

My absolute favourite part of makeup, HIGHLIGHTER. Incredible. Right now, I'm using the very beautiful Too Faced Candlelight Glow highlighter and it is wonderful. It comes in a beautiful circular packaging and inside half the powder is a shimmery gold and the other half is a pretty pink. When you run your brush through both and apply it, you ascend to your status of Perfect Angel.

On an everyday basis, I don’t really use bronzer or eye shadow. I like to keep it very simple and natural (I’m lazy) so I finish my “look” with mascara. If you do not own this mascara, I swear you’re missing out. It is a little pricey, I will admit. I debated buying it for a long time before I did but I am very, glad I did. Tarte’s Lights Camera Lashes mascara is the best mascara EVER. It doesn’t clump, it makes your lashes look long and full, it’s cruelty free, it has cute packaging, and it’s waterproof!! Honestly, I don’t know what else you could be looking for in mascara. It is a perfect 10.

There you have it, a short summary of the makeup I wear nearly every day. Previously, I thought that makeup was meant to feel gross and cakey and oily on my skin. It wasn’t until I started watching youtube videos and reading blogs that I realized people had different skin types and needed to use makeup that catered to their particular skin type. A wild discovery for me. I have spent years looking for makeup that would work with my skin as opposed to against it. So, if you have oily skin and are struggling, I hope you check out some of these products and have as much success with them as I have.
